Parole & Probation Deputy

The Community Corrections Division embraces evidence-based practices and community policing as guiding philosophies to deliver supervision services to our client population. These deputies actively use a wide array of approaches to reduce risk and promote client change.

Enforcement Deputy

Enforcement deputies are visible in the community patrolling unincorporated areas of Marion County and contract cities. Specialty positions include investigations, K-9, traffic, marine patrol, and more.

Corrections Deputy

Primarily assigned to the Institutions Division and work at the Marion County Jail. This team works in living units (pods), intake, medical, supervise work crews out in the community, and perform transports and extraditions.

Hiring Process

How to Become a
Deputy Sheriff

Discover our current openings and submit your application. We can’t wait to see what you bring to the table.

There are three ways to show you’ve met the requirements:

1. Possess a four-year degree.

2. Currently certified by DPSST in the same discipline you are applying to.

3. Recent(within the past twelve months) FrontLine test (Enforcement/Institutions/Community Corrections) or REACT (Institutions/Community Corrections) with National Testing Network (NTN).

There are three ways to show you’ve met the requirements:

1. Currently certified by DPPST in the same discipline you are applying to.

2. Recent (within past twelve months) Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT) administered by an Oregon law enforcement organization or authorized testing agency (NTN).

3. Recent (within past twelve months) Physical Abilities Test (PAT) administered by a military or law enforcement agency.

(Optional, but highly encouraged!)
We know picking the right agency can be a difficult decision. Contact our recruitment team to learn more about the Sheriff’s Office, the hiring process, and to schedule time to meet our team and tour our facilities.

If you meet all the above requirements, you may be invited to spend 2-3 hours with our team to complete pre-suitability testing and a panel interview.

Nail the interview, and you’ll be asked to complete an online background packet, which aligns with Oregon Administrative Rules.

We’ll schedule a pre-employment psychological exam to assess your readiness for the role.

A medical exam will be arranged to confirm you meet the physical requirements outlined in Oregon Administrative Rules.
